Think this challenge is not for you?
At first glance, obstacles like The Block Ness Monster, Arctic Enema 2.0, and the idea of being zapped with 10,000 volts is likely to scare the bajeezus out of most of us. But Tough Mudder says that their veteran Mudders (affectionately named Legionnaires) explain it quite differently.
My first Tough Mudder was a total surprise. I started the day with one friend and finished with twelve new friends. I was able to get past my pain because of the core values of Tough Mudder—because of TEAMWORK! - Haruko Harrington Chan, 2x Legionnaire
Tough Mudder plugs itself on three main points: Teamwork; Mental Grit; and 20+ obstacles. As teamwork is #1 on their list – we thought we’d take a closer look.
The challenge is run in teams, with no winner, no finisher medals, and no clock to race. It truly is a challenge built on teamwork, camaraderie and epic achievement. They say you’ll cross the finish line with more friends than you showed up with (high-five), and based on the team-oriented obstacles - some of which are impossible alone, and all of which are far more fun together - we think they’re onto something!
We human beings are social creatures.
We like to spend time together.
Researchers have even linked training together to a greater sense of happiness!
It’s theorised that team training releases a higher rush of endorphins (those good-guys that give you a fabulous natural high and sense of well-being) than working out alone.
So bring your endorphin-fuelled vigour to help your fellow Mudders tackle obstacles like The Pyramid Scheme - which literally requires the quick-thinking construction of a human pyramid to complete!
‘I run for the feeling of pride knowing that you helped someone overcome a difficult challenge. I run for the teamwork and camaraderie that only Mudders understand and share throughout these events.’ - John Thoel, 3x Legionnaire
