A protein shake out of the fridge is ok for when you’re on the run after working out. But when it comes to a natural and protein-packed nutritious drink – nothing beats a freshly made smoothie. In this article, our V-Café team shares their three favourite post-workout smoothies, so you can now shake up at home! (Or grab one when you’re in at your local Virgin Active club.)

 1. Mighty Mike

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face with the flavour of Mighty Mike. If you ‘do even lift’, then Mighty Mike is for you. Also just great for peanut butter lovers, this super tasty smoothie is high in calories – if you're bulking up – and packed with protein.

Ingredients:

  • 400 ml skim milk
  • 1 small banana (or 4 pieces)
  • 20g almond / oat blend
  • 1tbsp peanut butter
  • 2 scoops (40g) vanilla protein poweder
  • Scoop of ice

2. Green Machine

Say namaste to Green Machine. If you’re after a smoothie to keep your chakras open and aligned, then look no further than Green Machine. A plant-based and animal cruelty free smoothie, it’s low on calories and packed with nutritious greens and other feel-good foods. Also loaded with all-important fibre, a few sips of Green Machine and you’ll be walking lighter and feeling freer in no time.

  • 400ml coconut water
  • 1 small banana
  • Handful of spinach
  • 4 dates
  • 2 scoops (40g) vegan vanilla protein
  • Scoop of ice

3. Super Slim

If Summer is your season and Saturday night speaks to you, then you’ll love Super Slim. It’s a ray of sunshine. An Insta pic. Fun with friends. But most important of all, it’s nutritious, low on calories, and packed with fresh flavours. Super Slim is a classic smoothie combo that we think you’ll love.

  • 400ml water
  • 5g L-Carnitine
  • 2 scoops (40g) vanilla protein powder
  • 2 tbsp frozen mixed berries
  • 1 small banana
  • Option to add some honey
