Relax and release in the ultimate Restorative Yoga practice

Time out. Classes in the Calm category stretch and relax you. They’re the perfect complement to a workout or hectic daily schedule. Restorative Yoga is a very slow-paced style involving many lying poses, as well as the use of props (sometimes lots of props) allowing the body to feel totally supported so that the physical, mental and visceral bodies can begin to relax and release

Why is it good for me?

It is in fact better than sleep for releasing tense muscles, relieving joint aches, and transitioning the mind and body quickly from stress to calm. Without the distraction of an uncomfortable body, we have the freedom to soften and release deeply, to ease through layers of tension, into profound relaxation, quietness and stillness. This type of practice can be complementary to all other active, strong yang style practices/exercises

What will I do?

Postures which are often supported by props, are designed to maximize comfort and allowing you to fully let go. Postures are held for 5 minutes or more. Restorative poses can include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends as well as lying postures and postures against the wall. Incorporating pranayama (breath work) in order to restore, renew and heal. This type of Yoga may actually be seen as an deeper form of Yoga, more akin to meditation, where we have the time to observe sensations, our breath, our emotions and mind, and where we may welcome all of these experiences

What should I bring?

We have all the equipment you need, including Yoga mats. But feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Make sure you wear comfortable warm clothes like a jumper and socks. We do recommend bringing a Yoga towel, which we sell at reception. During Restorative Yoga, make sure you grab a block, belt, eye pillow and bolster as you set up your mat
