Audio Guided Runs Are The Latest Trend

by Stephanie Underhill on Tuesday 5 February 2019

If you’re the sort of person who requires a lot of coaxing to get running, audio guided runs might just be the game-changer you’ve been waiting for. While running apps are no new invention, many apps are starting to include audio guided runs as a feature. Imagine having a virtual running coach along for the ride as you hit the pavement, offering encouragement and useful tips to keep you going.

Whether you’re training for your first 5km run, preparing for your next marathon, getting back into running after a break or injury, or looking for a new way to enjoy exercise – audio runs are well worth a look. We explore why audio guided runs are the latest trend, and how they can help you.

MOTIVATION AND ENCOURAGEMENT

Many audio guided runs, such as the ones on Aaptiv and Studio, feature dialogue from a trainer or running coach who stays with you throughout the entirety of your run. This guidance is a great way of staying motivated to keep going, as the coach will spur you on to the finish line. They’ll even encourage you to celebrate wins along the way, such as running your first kilometre, running for a certain amount of time, or nearing the end of your workout.

DATA AND TRACKING

Another great way audio guided runs can add value to your run is by offering useful data and analytics. Apps like Endomondo and Nike+ Run Club, for example, can update you on your progress every kilometre you  complete, including how far you’ve run and how fast your pace is. This data can be a great inspiration to run faster or keep pressing on to reach your distance goal.

TIPS AND ADVICE

As great as it is to watch videos or read articles on running tips and tricks, many audio guided runs offer useful advice while you’re actually in action. Running coaches can suggest physical and mental techniques
on how to get better results from your run. Nike+ Run Club has even partnered with meditation app Headspace to develop audio guided runs that focus on mental wellbeing through running

FUN AND GAMES

It might sound crazy, but yes – audio guided runs can make running fun! Some audio runs turn your running session into a fun game, immersing you in a virtual environment that requires you to run to fulfil missions. Take Zombies, Run! for example. This audio run app uses soundtracks to place you in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, and the audio guide encourages you to run for your life!

Working out with the support of a coach can yield great results – whether it’s running or any other kind of exercise. Trained fitness coaches know how to guide you and encourage you in your workout.
