Swimsters Levels
Swimsters members get their swim on for 10 weeks, lining up with the 10-week public school term. For the start date of our next term, click here.
We have a wide range of different swimming age and skill levels, so that your littl’un can learn in an environment best suited for him or her.
Little Dippers
Our Little Dippers program lets you introduce your tot to the water with songs and games. It’s designed to let 6mths - 3yrs olds discover the water in a safe and positive way that helps them master early water safety skills.
Big Dippers
Our Big Dippers program is for 3 year olds up to teenagers. In the early levels we focus on water confidence and develop the basics for swimming skills and water safety. Later on we develop on the foundation of the earlier levels as well as looking at technique, water safety, survival and basic rescue skills. This will give your little hero the opportunity to become a strong and safe swimmer that’s ready for any number of water activities.
Shoomys - 6-12 Months
Hi, I’m Shoomy. At my level, tots will explore the sensations of the water with the full support of their parent/carer. We’ll use songs and games to keep the little ones engaged while we introduce them to water.
Squirts- 12-24 Months
Squirt here. At my level, we’ll have songs, games and activities to help build the fundamental skills of water familiarisation. We’ll cover the bubble basics including getting wet, breathing, going underwater, staying afloat, keeping balance and kick and arm action.
Foos - 24-36 Months
I’m Foo. At my level, tots explore their independence in the water through games and activities - of course mum or dad is always close by for support. This way they get to experience submersions and floatation on their own and see how their body works in water, but have full reassurance.
Skifs
Hi, I’m Skif. My level focuses on water confidence. Pre-schoolers will begin to switch from a parent and child class to a “BIG KIDS” class with their own instructor. Parents may still be required in the water during this level but it is more to assist littl’uns with achieving full independence in and around the water.
Groobas
Call me Grooba. Swimsters at my level learn focus on early skill development. We’ll cover the basics for swim strokes, floating skills and start learning basic scuba skills (that’s underwater stuff). Then we get them to show us their freestyle, backstroke, survival and underwater skills over a short distance.
Oodles
Hello, I’m Oodle. At my level, we’ll look at water discovery. We’ll focus on developing the fundamental skills around swimming and water safety. Swimsters will learn safe entries and exits, floating and sculling, breathing, movement and swimming strokes, survival skills and underwater skills. They will also be tested on their water safety knowledge and encouraged to practice it at all times.
Skeets
Hi, Skeet here. My level is about developing freestyle and backstroke. We’ll work on the body position, leg action, arm action and bi-lateral breathing (fancy talk for breathing on each side). We’ll also cover an introduction to personal survival and floatation device skills, safe diving techniques and rescue skills, further building on Swimsters’ water safety knowledge.
Fliks
Greetings, I’m Flik. Swimsters at my level will begin to develop a coordinated freestyle and backstroke technique over a short distance and we’ll introduce them to basic survival strokes i.e. survival backstroke kick and breaststroke kick. Swimsters’ diving skills will progress to a sitting dive and their personal survival and rescue technique will require a greater amount of skill and proficiency to move up.
Kulas
The name’s Kula. At my level, Swimsters will continue to improve their overall technique in freestyle and backstroke as shown through an increase in distance. They’ll be taught the full stroke of survival backstroke and breaststroke and beginner butterfly is introduced. Diving skill will progress to a crouch dive and their personal survival and rescue technique requires a greater amount of skill and proficiency to complete this level.
Unos
Hiya, I’m Uno! My level is for Swimsters that can swim freestyle and backstroke using correct technique. They’ll also continue to develop survival backstroke and breaststroke into a proficient stroke and butterfly is progressed to the full stroke. Swimsters will progress to standing dives in preparation for racing starts and turns are also introduced. Their personal survival and rescue techniques will need a greater amount of skill and proficiency to graduate this level.
